Free electron to electride transition in dense liquid potassium
نویسندگان
چکیده
At high pressures, simple metals such as potassium have a rich phase diagram including an insulating electride in which electrons localized, anionic character. Measurements the liquid shown transition between two states, but experimental challenges prevented detailed thermodynamic measurements. Using example, we present numerical evidence that liquid–liquid is continuous transformation from free electron to behaviour. We show manifests anomalous diffusivity, thermal expansion, speed of sound, coordination number, reflectivity and heat capacity across wide range pressures. The abnormalities stem significant change local electronic ionic structure. Although primarily pressure-induced phenomenon, there also expansion anomaly. By establishing nature high-pressure phase, resolve long-standing mystery how can be denser than close-packed solid. Our work relevant for properties all alkali metal liquids. Alkali at pressures difficult study detail. Numerical calculations now suggest higher-pressure state liquid, behave like localized anions.

متن کاملOn the superfluid transition in dense electron systems
Kohn's singularity in dense electron systems is shown to give rise to instability against Cooper pair formation for large orbital momentum I , i.e. for I %r;':* -while for dilute systems ( r , S 1) pairing with 1 = 1 is predicted. It has long been known (Kohn and Luttinger 1965) that in dilute Fermi gas the use of an expansion for a bare vertex for a Cooper channel in powers of the gas paramete...

Two-dimensional electron systems offer enormous opportunities for science discoveries and technological innovations. Here we report a dense electron system on the surface of single-crystal vanadium dioxide nanobeam via electrolyte gating. The overall conductance of the nanobeam increases by nearly 100 times at a gate voltage of 3 V. A series of experiments were carried out which rule out electr...
متن کاملEvidence of a liquid-liquid phase transition in hot dense hydrogen.
We use pulsed-laser heating of hydrogen at static pressures in the megabar pressure region to search for the plasma phase transition to liquid atomic metallic hydrogen. We heat our samples substantially above the melting line and observe a plateau in a temperature vs. laser power curve that otherwise increases with power. This anomaly in the heating curve appears correlated with theoretical pre...
متن کاملTransition free-electron laser „amplifier... driven by an electron bunch
A theory of transition free-electron laser ~FEL! driven by an electron bunch of finite longitudinal length is presented. It is shown that one can introduce concepts of a long, a short, and a very short bunch depending on the degree of correlation between the bunch effective length and the transition radiation formation length. It is obtained that a long Gaussian bunch produces an electromagneti...
